The Pursuit of Rest
Everyday I wake up hungry. Every day I wake up needing a shower. Everyday I wake up thirsty. Every day I wake up alert, thinking about the day ahead. I plan, I navigate what is needing to be done and what I desire to do. Everyday the day lies before me full of opportunity and sometimes excitement. Everyday there are things to do and things to complete.
Everyday God is merciful, faithful and good. Daily He longs to pour into us all that He has. Everyday salvation rings out from heaven to mankind. Humanity is on God’s heart. The believer is in the prayers of Jesus before the Father. Everyday the Holy Spirit is ready to perform and respond to God’s Word spoken in faith. Everyday life, victory and joy are available for all who would wait upon the Lord. The Word of God is alive everyday!
We are a precious group of people. We have access to eternity. We live in a gathering of souls that respond to the call of the Holy Spirit. There is a call that rings out across the earth. A call that pierces the spirit. When answered it takes you to another realm. It is the Spirit’s call. It is the call to rest.
The bible tells us to labour, strive, search after and pursue this call. Faith demands it. Deep calls unto deep. A believing heart welcomes it. It is the call to rest, to trust, to presence and to relationship. It is not a call to work or to works. It is not a call that requires you to earn or achieve. It is a call to enter in.
Everyday trust in Him. Take your heart and lean on Him. Know Him. Know the power that resides in your relationship with the Almighty. Let the King and His love for you overwhelm you. This is not an emotional response but a spiritual connection. Your heart and your mind collectively reaching out to His presence. Entering in to the depths of a God who loves you with His whole heart.
I know that this all sounds ethereal, non-existent or non-substantial but sometimes words cannot contain the spiritual insight that your heart sees by faith. Faith puts substance to a dream, to hope. Faith brings into reality that which is in eternity that cannot yet be grasped by sight. Faith sees and senses. Faith reaches out and grabs the formless and creates a natural space for a dream to explode into.
When we are reaching into true spiritual things we separate ourselves from natural things. Brother Hagin would talk about being ‘lost in the spirit’. The Apostle Paul said he would sometime be beside himself. When you pray you can place yourself into a realm of seeing. As you begin to step into the spirit you begin to see and talk like God. You talk His words and faith flows. The impossible is declared. The future is seen. You pull on the Spirit’s thoughts and direction. You see inside you and vocalise the depths of God’s heart.
If you have never gone there, this is the pursuit of rest. Prayer can never become mechanical. Prayer can never be rote. Prayer must be of the heart for it is with mouth the heart must speak salvation. Your answer is within and you must pull it out in the state of rest. When you are in the spirit your time will feel suspended. You will shift into the rest of faith. There are depths to this we have never yet experienced.
I am not building a doctrine. I am not trying to take us away from the Word of God but I am describing the experiential side of the things of God. You can enter into total rest and peace as you pursue Him. Praying earnestly in tongues and with your understanding is the platform.
Pursue Him today. Go after all that is good, acceptable and the will of God. You will never be disappointed. God is not hiding from you…He wants to be found. Show God your hunger today. Press into His presence. Pursue with hunger and thirst. Those who seek will find.
Make this your daily practice. Read your Bible. Pray everyday. You will grow, grow, grow! Pursue rest, step into faith. Enter the promise of God and you will see your life change for the better for in God’s presence there is fulness of JOY!
